According to the “Global Wellness Institute, The Global Wellness Economy: Looking Beyond COVID, December 2021.” The Wellness Industry is growing year on year and seeing no slowdown from the global pandemic. The global wellness economy stands at $4.4 trillion in 2020 amidst the chaos and disruptions caused by COVID-19.

These are large numbers and do spread across a number of wellness sectors including public health, mental wellness, Traditional and Complementary Medicine, Real Estate, Healthy Eating, Physical Activity, wellness tourism, personal care, and spas. Here are the top six trends for 2022.

1. Health

As our populations are aging and lifestyle diseases are increasing there is an increased demand for clinics that focus on disease prevention and offer support in lifestyle improvement. These clinics use not just conventional testing methods but also rely on Genetic testing and Functional Medicine test to build a deeper profile of the customer’s health status and possible risks. We also see an increasing demand on what treatments these clinics can offer and what are the benefits to the clients that chose to take these treatments as either a preventative or therapeutic therapy. Due to the pandemic, there is also a demand for advice on what therapeutic treatments can be done at home to boost immunity and support wellbeing.

2. Fitness

Fitness trackers have been the number one trend and we believe this will continue but with a focus on coaching not just tracking. We see this evolving into gyms, studios, personal trainers, and sports coaches having access to their client’s data and being able to send them a personalized training program. From the weekend cyclist to those trying to run their first 5K race the tracking devices will evolve into their personal coach. We see the evolvement of personal trainers in assessing, adapting, and moving more into Functional Movement and rehab space. These professionals will be moving more into lifestyle coaching or specific wellness conditions such as sleep coaches.

3. Nutrition

Fasting, reading labels, and lowering sugar people are looking to see how to improve their health via the foods they are choosing to eat. We see a growing trend in nutrition for disease management as well as a growing trend in fasting retreats and workshops. For restaurants and hospitality outlets giving their customers an understanding of the carbs, protein, and fats known as the macros in the meal will be the future of this space.

4. Sleep

Research shows that poor sleep is associated with physical and mental health, including heart disease, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and depression. Sleep tracking and understanding how sleep can affect your health is a booming market, from wearables to under mattress trackers we only see this space continuing to grow in devices and the demand to understand the data on the quality of the sleep.

5. Mindfulness

Since the 70’s Mindfulness and the pursuit of mindful activities have continued to grow. With the introduction of mindfulness apps to wearables, we see people’s awareness of mindful practices on the rise. We also see that this is a multigenerational trend from the classroom to the board room schools and companies are looking to mindful practices to improve outputs for all.

6. Science-backed Biohacking

With many devices and consumables on the market, we turn to the science of biohacking devices and any related published studies to support the claims of the devices before either using them or recommending them to be used. We see this as a growing area to support revenue for projects and enhance customers’ health with often little or no effort on the consumer’s part. When reviewing each project or request from a client we can call on a range of different devices to be incorporated into the menu of services.
